Lanzhou Jiaotong University (LJU), located in Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu Province is the third railway college of China. The history of LJU can be traced back to the Imperial Chinese Railway College in 1896. After years of development, LJU is a multidisciplinary, comprehensive university with a wide range of disciplines covered, comprising the engineering, technology, economy, management, arts, agronomy and science of laws. LJU offers a multitude of characteristic specialties in the fields of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Environmental and Municipal Engineering, Automation and Electrical Engineering and Electronics and information Engineering. The university has trained a large number of excellent engineers for the infrastructure construction of the world.

LJU currently has three campuses and over 30,000 full-time students, including over 22,000 undergraduate students, 5,450 postgraduate students. The university is the Demonstration Base for Study in China as well as the host university for Chinese Government Scholarship Program and Silk Road Scholarship Program of Gansu Province. The university has already cultivated over 1800 international students from 57 countries all over the world and international students alumni are distributed in more than 70 countries around the world .

Note: Applicants whose language proficiency does not meet the requirements of LJU for degree study should attend one-year self-sponsored Chinese language training first. Those who complete the Chinese language program at LJU, get HSK4 level certificate with required scores and pass the annual review will be preferably considered for the scholarship.

4. Eligibility of Applicants

1) Each applicant should be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China with a valid passport, in good health. Applicants who were originally Chinese citizens and later joined foreign nationality should meet the conditions set by the Document No.83 (2009) issued by Ministry of Education of the PRC.

2) The requirements for applicants’ degree and age are that applicants for bachelor’s degree programs should hold a high-school diploma or equivalent qualification and be at the age between 16 to 25 (Applicants under the age of 18 should provide guardianship certificate).

3) No violation of the laws and regulations of the PRC and the rules of LJU.

4) Non-beneficiary of any other scholarship.

5) Applicants for this scholarship should submit valid HSK4 certificate with scores of 200 or above. Applicants whose HSK certificates were not obtained from the test center of LJU should take the test again at LJU and reach the requirements within the first semester.

6) Enrolled students who have received academic warning or drop-out warning will be disqualified for the Silk Road Scholarship.  

5. Scholarship Coverage

a. Full Silk Road Scholarship

2)Ten-month accommodation fee exempted;

3)Ten-month stipend: 1,500 CNY/month.

b. Half Silk Road Scholarship

1) Tuition waiver;

6.Fees Students Need to Pay

1) Registration fee: 400 CNY;

2) Comprehensive medical insurance: 800 CNY/academic year;

3) Books: according to the actual situation;

4) Accommodation fees of July and August (if inhabited): 1,000 CNY/month.

8. Application Procedure

Applicants should log on LJU online application system http://lzjtu.17gz.org to complete the application online and upload the scanned copies of the following documents:

1)The front page of passport within the validity period;

2)The visa page and exit-entry records in China (if there are);

3)Notarized highest diploma and official academic transcripts (Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized Chinese or English translations);

4)HSK4 certificate with scores of 200 or above;

5)A photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form, written in English, should be submitted. The form designed by the Chinese quarantine authority is available at http://sie.lzjtu.edu.cn/ywlm/Programs/Programs.htm. The physical examination must cover all the items specified by the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant will be considered invalid. Please schedule your physical examination wisely, as the result is valid for only 6 months;

6)A study or research plan in Chinese or in English with over 500 words;

7)Certified documents of social activities;

8)Certificate of No Criminal Record.

9. Admission and Enrollment

LJU reviews the application documents and decides the nominated candidates. Applicants will be informed of the results by email before July 15^th. Successfully admitted candidates should confirm your offer through email within 5 working days and pay for the registration fee 400 CNY to the appointed account of the university or in cash (The registration fee is not refundable). Once payments are received, The Admission Notice and The Visa Application Form (JW202) will be sent in 15-20 working days. If applicants do not confirm or fail to pay the registration fee in time, the admission offer will be regarded invalid.

Enrollment period usually starts from late August or early September. Specific dates of enrollment will be given on the applicant’s Admission Notice. All the admitted students should register in LJU within the registration period specified in The Admission Notice. The admission offer will be regarded invalid if students fail to do registration two weeks beyond the required enrollment time.

10.Annual Review

1)Scholarship students will be reviewed in each academic year in accordance with The Temporary Regulations of The Silk Road Scholarship Program of LJU. LJU will make the comprehensive assessment on students’ academic performance, academic attitude, attendance records, performance and rewards and punishments received. Based on assessment results, students who receive full Silk Road Scholarship and half Silk Road Scholarship are determined.  

2)For those whose scholarship are stopped, they will become a self-financed student from September of next academic year.

12. A penal of experts from LJU will review complete application documents and select best candidates for interview. Applicants should pay close attention to the mailbox linked to the application system for specific date of interview. Successfully admitted candidates will receive The Admission Notice and JW201 Form. Normally these documents will be mailed directly to the applicant before July 31^st.  

13. Enrollment period usually starts from late August or early September. Specific dates of enrollment will be given on the applicant’s Admission Notice. All the admitted students should register in LJU within the registration period specified in The Admission Notice. The admission offer will be regarded invalid if students fail to do registration two weeks beyond the required enrollment time. Admitted students are required to bring double authenticated highest diploma and original academic transcripts at registration so that staff of LJU can reexamine eligibility of applicants. For those who are finally found to be ineligible, their admission will be cancelled on the spot.  

14. Applicants should submit valid HSK4 certificate (with scores of 200 or above) within the appointed period. Applicants whose HSK and HSKK certificates were not obtained from the test center of LJU should take the test again at LJU and reach the requirements within required period.

    4）Students must finish their study in allotted time. A scholarship extension will not be permitted.

    10. Annual Review

    1) Scholarship students will be reviewed in each academic year in accordance with The Annual Review Rules and Implementation Details for International Students of LJU. LJU will make the comprehensive assessment on students’ academic performance, academic attitude, attendance records, performance and rewards and punishments received.

2) Scholarship students will retain scholarship if they pass the annual review. Otherwise, with approval of Chinese Scholarship Council, scholarship will be terminated next academic year. If scholarship is stopped, students can continue their study at their own expenses.
